What is Iridology?
Iridology is the study of the iris and an alternative medicine technique that analysis the pattern, colours and other characteristics of the iris. Iridologists see the eyes as “Windows” into the state of the body’s physical health, predispositions and including psychological and emotional information that shows where deeper issues are. The examination can determine information about the patient’s systemic health. Practitioners match their findings and observations to iris charts which are divided into 8 zones.

These zones correspond to specific parts and systems of the body. This information can be used to distinguish between healthy systems and organs that are inflamed, over or underactive or distressed. Iridologists can also determine a patient’s susceptibility towards a certain illness reflects past medical problems or to a certain degree predict later health problems. Please note that iridology is not a diagnostic tool.
What does it do?
According to various Iridology societies there are three main “constitutional types” of iris colour.
First is the blue eye or Lymphatic type, whose main inherited tendencies includes an acidic system, lymphatic system problems including swollen lymph nodes, tonsillitis and irritated appendix. Other predispositions include excess mucus, coughs, bronchitis, dry skin, arthritis, sinusitis, fluid retention and eye irritations.
Second is the pure brown eye or haematogenic type. Predispositions include Anemia (low iron), blood diseases such as jaundice, under functioning liver or gall bladder and including pancreas, endocrine disorders such as thyroid gland, constipation, flatulence, ulcers and diabetes
.
Third is the mixed or biliary type which includes both the lymphatic and haematogenic inherited tendencies.
Sclerology is the study of the sclera lines or red lines on the white part of the eye. These lines are signs of compromised health. These markings identify pathological conditions that are occurring in the body. The findings are noted and compared to the Sclerology charts to locate the organs and systems that are under functioning and distressed.
What can be seen in the sclera?
- Stresses and congestions in any area, of significance, in the body.
- The organs and tissues where disease began and the spread of disease from an area of the body to another.
- Physical injury, trauma, metabolic diseases, infections by harmful organisms, cardio vascular, liver & other organ disorders. Drug induced disorders and diet abuse.
- Emotional sensitivity and emotional related diseases i.e. stress patterns.
- Indicates the developing problems, whether acute, chronic or congested.
What cannot be seen in the sclera? Pregnancies, gender of person, personality characteristics and named diseases like cancer, artheritis, diabetes etc. Basic Iridology is used as a guide in consultation to conclude treatment planning and is not a tool to diagnose any medical condition.
